Goals of the regional scholarship programme:
The scholarship programme fosters scientific research specifically in the South Caucasus. The programme aims to:
- support young researchers to conduct individual and interdisciplinary scientific research in the framework of regional cooperation thus supporting the development of social sciences;
- sustain the development of a South Caucasian network of highly qualified professionals.
Selection Criteria:
Applicants born on 1975-1987, who hold diploma of higher education and who permanently reside in the South Caucasus, can apply. Good knowledge of English and Russian is a must. Methodologically innovative works that comprise oral history, sociological research methods and comparative studies will be given particular priority.
The Foundation finances researches in the frameworks of the following directions:
- New vision of ethno-political conflicts
- Migration issues
- Refugees: strategies for survival
- Dynamics and analysis of development of political culture
- History of everyday life/ anthropology
- History of opposition against the Soviet regime and repressions
- Identity construction
- The “own” and “other” in society
- Problems of inequality and discrimination
- Transformation of gender roles
- Urbanization and urban culture
- Social and informational infrastructure of the city
- Problems of the sustainable urban development (social/ ecologic/ economic)
- Architecture and political power
Duration and payment
The scholarship period comprises 12 months: 01/01/10 – 31/12/10, with a monthly stipend of 250 Euro. Additional expenses for seminars, summer schools, publications, etc., may be granted.
General guidelines:
- The scholarship is considered to be a personal financial assistance and cannot be used for projects other than envisaged by the programme.
- Applicants do not necessarily need to be affiliated to a scientific institution or have a scientific degree.
- Deadline for applications is 30 October 2009, 18:00 am.
Application documents should be submitted in under mentioned order:
- Filled letterhead with the following information: name and last name; date of birth; country; scientific field; competition subject (choose one from abovementioned 14); title of the proposed work (competition subject and title of the proposed work should not coincide!);
- Application form (Download in English and Russian);
- Curriculum Vitae;
- Essay (5-8 pages) which should reflect your professional and personal motivation: 1. Why am I interested in this topic? 2. What do I know about the proposed topic? 3. What methods will I use to research this topic? 4. Annual work schedule;
- Two recommendation letters from an academic institution or from an immediate supervisor you have worked with (indicating relevant experience and/or scientific work);
- Certificate of higher education (B.A., M.A. or 5-year diploma) with transcripts;
- Facultative: List of publications, including copies (only up to 20 pages).
All the above-mentioned documents must be presented in English or Russian (except for copies of research papers) in 3 copies and on CD (2 copies). Incomplete, belated or e-mailed application packages will not be considered.
